ILOILO City – As of yesterday, 20 unlicensed firearms were seized following the Iloilo Police Provincial Office’s (IPPO) launching of “one time, big-time” operations against loose guns on Monday.

From the house of Roland Gumban, 60, in Barangay Labigan, Sara, Iloilo, policemen — with a search warrant secured from the court – recovered a .45 pistol with bullets, a pouch with 11 bullets for a .357 revolver, two 12-gauge shotguns and a homemade .22 rifle.

According to Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, IPPO director, police operations against loose firearms will last until Aug. 27.

“We don’t want lawless elements to get hold of these guns,” he stressed.

In this “one time, big-time” operations, the campaign against illegal drugs is also included. Since Monday, the police have confiscated 42 sachets of shabu.

Around 4:45 p.m. on Aug. 21 drug pushing suspect Jason Patingo, 39, was busted on Confesor Street, Cabatuan, Iloilo. Police seized 31 sachets of shabu.

Yesterday, 22-year-old Joel Rey Blanco of Barangay Talongadian, Santa Barbara town was arrested around 8 a.m. in Barangay Sto. Niño, San Miguel, Iloilo. Police seized 11 sachets of shabu.

During a visit to Iloilo City on Aug. 14, Philippine National Police’s Director General Ronald Dela Rosa urged Western Visayas policemen to “step up” and “double-time” in the antidrug drive.

A total of 1,915 drug personalities have been arrested and 20,598 surrendered in Western Visayas since July last year after the launching of Oplan Double Barrel. But Dela Rosa was not impressed.

“Mababa ang drug personalities n’yo na nag-surrender or nahuli. Dagdagan nyo pa,” he told them during a program marking the 116th Police Service Anniversary in Camp Delgado./PN
