AS in the opening round, Round 2 of the 2021 DSB-Kader-Challenge now ongoing at Maritim Hotel in Magdeburg, Germany, was another round of four draws iced by a solitary decision – a result that kept 17-year old FM Frederik Svane in the lead of the Category 14 (average Elo: 2590) event.
Svane held GM Andreas Heimann with the black pieces in 58 moves of a hard-fought Ruy Lopez. The only winner of the round was GM Matthias Blübaum, who bounced back from a sorry Round 1 loss to the young Svane to outplay GM Niclas Huschenbeth in 38 moves of a Nimzo-Indian. The rest of the Round 2 matches were drawn: GMs Daniel Fridman vs. Dennis Wagner, GMs Alexander Donchenko vs. Luis Engel, and GMs Rasmus Svane vs. Dmitrij Kollars turned out point-splitters.
The standings after Round 2: 1. F. Svane, 1½; 2-9. Heimann, R. Svane, Fridman, Kollars, Wagner, Engel, Donchenko, Blübaum, 1; 10. Huschenbeth,½.
