2021 US Women’s Chess Championship: Underdogs leading the way

It was a rest day in the men’s division of the 2021 US Chess Championships in St. Louis, Missouri, so we’ll take a peek at what’s happening at the women’s division which is running simultaneous with the men’s competition.

Like in the men’s division, there are twelve players in the distaff division. After four rounds of play, Yip and Nemcova are pacing the pack with 3 points apiece, chased by Eswaran and Cervantes Landeiro who each has 2½ points. So far, the underdogs are holding their own against the rating favorites, with Yip demolishing top seed Krush in Round 4 and Eswaran beating 2nd seed Zatonskih right in the opening round.
