ILOILO City – The May 9, 2022 national and local elections across the region were generally peaceful.

There were no major election-related violent incidents, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).

The 24 crime incidents it recorded were far lower compared to Election Day in 2016 and 2019 with 125 and 62, crimes reported, respectively.

On the eight-focus crimes, only three cases were recorded – lesser compared to 12 in May 13, 2019 and 26 in May 9, 2016.

PRO-6 director, Police Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo, said the deployment of thousands of police personnel was effective.

“Our early preparations and focus executions of all involved agencies under the Regional Joint Security Control Center anchored on coordination, collaboration, cooperation, and commitment was effective,” Dongbo told Panay News.

The region’s top cop also expressed gratitude to the Commission on Elections, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Coast Guard, Department of Education, and other government agencies.

“To all stakeholders and to the general public, maraming salamat sa inyong supporta at pag-sunod sa mga polisiya na ipinapatupad at pinaiiral ng inyong kapulisan at ng ating gobyerno ngayong election. Your individual endeavors were all part of this success. We have not reached this far without you,” he said.

“Ang mga kabutihang nagawa natin ngayong eleksyon dito sa Rehiyon 6 ay parte na ng ating kasaysayan at magandang kwento na mamanahin ng mga susunod na henerasyon. Your police in Western Visayas in partnership with concerned government agencies is committed to maintain Western Visayas a safer place to live, work and do business,” he added./PN
