ILOILO City – The Philippine Statistics Authority – Regional Statistical Services Office (PSA-RSSO) is calling for full public support and cooperation as the 2024 Census of Population – Community-Based Monitoring System (POPCEN-CBMS) kicks off in Western Visayas on July 15.

Data derived from the census will serve as basis for formulating policies, programs, and projects in various sectors such as health, education, employment, housing, and infrastructure, among others.

These data may also guide resource allocation, political and administrative unit creation, redistricting, and business site selection.

The data gathered will also be used to determine eligibility for beneficiaries of social protection programs.

According to Nelida C. Amolar, officer-in-charge of PSA-RSSO, “This effort is a crucial step in our ongoing fight against poverty and will provide us the essential data to inform policymaking and program development aimed at improving the lives of all Filipinos.”

For his part, Atty. Carmelo Nochete, regional director of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), cited the significant benefits that DSWD could derive from the data produced by the PSA.

“We fully support the 2024 POPCEN-CBMS. We at the DSWD are firm believers in data-driven planning and implementation of our programs. In this day and age, information is power, and data is the basis for availing services of the government,” said Nochete.

The PSA has funded the hiring of enumerators in the provinces of Aklan, Iloilo, Antique, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, and Capiz. In highly urbanized cities like Iloilo City and Bacolod City, the hiring of enumerators is funded by their respective local government units (LGUs).

According to PSA, a total of 6,388 enumerators have been hired across the region, with the breakdown per province and highly urbanized cities as follows:

* Aklan – 618

* Antique – 395

* Capiz – 704

* Guimaras – 175

* Iloilo – 1,829

* Negros Occidental – 1,993

* City of Iloilo – 333

* City of Bacolod – 405

The 2024 POPCEN-CBMS will run until September 16, 2024.

Enumerators will be easily identifiable as they will be wearing uniforms with the PSA logo and carrying identification cards containing information such as name, age, address, contact number, and signatures of the enumerator and authority from the PSA.

Residents who doubt the legitimacy of enumerators can perform background checks by contacting PSA offices or consulting barangay officials./PN
