ILOILO City – Thousands of student-athletes are in high spirits as this year’s Iloilo Schools Sports Council (ISSC) Meet commenced yesterday, March 10, at the Iloilo Sports Complex in La Paz district.
Themed “Atletang Ilonggo: May Pusong Kampeon, Nangingibaw Anumang Panahon,” the sporting event has drawn diverse delegates from various districts and municipalities across Iloilo province.
Among the participating delegates are representatives from Iloilo’s 1st to 5th districts who emerged victorious in their respective Congressional District Sports Association (CDSA) Meets.
Also present were delegates from the Iloilo Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA), Iloilo City Sports Council, Iloilo National High School, and the newly participating city of Passi.
The opening program of the 2024 ISSC, more commonly known as the Integrated Meet, saw the attendance of athletes, coaches, district supervisors, principals, school superintendents, and local government units, all demonstrating their support for the event.
The solemn Athletes’ Oath of Amateurism was led by Carl Wayne Reyes, a gold medalist in the Arnis-Secondary category during the 2023 Palarong Pambansa.
Schools Division Superintendent Council chairperson Dr. Ernesto F. Servillon Jr., MNSA, CESO VI, officially declared the 2024 ISSC Meet open.
The sporting events are slated to officially begin today at various venues across the city, with specific locations to be announced in due course.
This year’s ISSC Meet holds significant importance as it will determine the athletes who will represent Iloilo province in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet scheduled for next month./PN
