ILOILO – More than five towns have shown interest in participating in the “KasadyahansaKabanwahanan”, a key event at the upcoming Dinagyang Festival 2025, according to Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr.

The provincial government is again being tasked to handle the Kasadyahan.

The towns expressing interest include Lambunao, Calinog, Santa Barbara, Zarraga, and Sara, though this list is not yet final, said Defensor.

He anticipates more towns will join as preparations progress.

The reigning champion, the Tultugan Festival from Maasin town, has also indicated its intention to defend its title at the event.

“The preparations by the Iloilo provincial government, in collaboration with the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. (IFFI), have started a few weeks ago,”Defensor said in response to queries about the event’s progress.

IFFI has been tasked by the City Government of Iloilo to manage the Dinagyang. It aims to enhance the performance quality for both locals and visitors.

Defensor added that the Kasadyahan event will continue to be part of the Dinagyang Festival, noting its significance and his hopes to further develop this festive addition.

To support the sustainability of the performances, the Iloilo provincial government will provide a P1 million subsidy to each participating local government unit.

In the previous year’s competition, nine tribes participated, including Katagman Festival of Oton, Saad Festival of Leganes, Pantat Festival of Zarraga, Cry of Jelicuon Festival of New Lucena, Kaing Festival of Leon, Jalaud, Hirinugyaw-Suguidanonay Festival of Calinog, Banaag Festival of Anilao, and Kasag Festival of Banate.

The Tultugan Festival of Maasin was crowned champion, followed by TribuJalaud and the Hirinugyaw-Suguidanonay Festival of Calinog.

Tultugan Festival went on to represent Iloilo Province at the Aliwan Fiesta from June 27 to 29, 2024, at AliwTheater, Pasay, Metro Manila, securing second place with Dinagyang Festival of Iloilo City taking the top spot./PN
