BACOLOD City – A 21-year-old man in Barangay San Isidro, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental shot himself after breaking up with his girlfriend, police said.
Senior Inspector Jaynick Bermudez, the town’s police chief, identified the man as resident Jun Narben Sopio.
Sopio shot himself on the chest using a .38-caliber revolver at around 5:50 a.m. on Thursday in a nipa hut at Hacienda Quenaruyan, a police report showed.
This woke up his brother Dominic and nephew Andre Gueginto, who brought him to the Ikaayong Lawas Foundation Medical Clinic in Victorias City, Negros Occidental.
But the attending physician pronounced Sopio “dead on arrival.”
Investigators believed that Sopio’s breakup with his girlfriend was the reason he shot himself.
