ILOILO – Of the 30 police personnel from Western Visayas linked to illegal drugs from March 1, 2021 to March 3 this year, 23 have been dismissed from the service, according to the Police Regional Office (PRO-6).

Five, meanwhile, were exonerated and two were suspended, PRO-6 data further showed.

Of the 30 cops, 22 tested positive for illegal drug use, four failed to submit to drug tests, one was arrested in a drug buy-bust operation, and three were involved in illegal drug activities, said Police Major Mary Grace Borio, PRO-6 spokesperson.

The PRO-6 is intensifying its monitoring of – and operations against – rogue cops across the region following the order of newly installed chief of the Philippine National Police, Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr., to conduct operations against rogue cops “at the lower level”.

For his part, Police Brigadier General Leo Francisco, PRO-6 director, said prior to Acorda’s order, they were already conducting counterintelligence monitoring of police officers reportedly involved in illegal activities, especially illegal drugs./PN
