ILOILO – Twenty-three towns in this province have recorded dengue cases since January.
As of Feb. 19, they registered a combined 59 cases with two deaths – five percent higher than the 56 cases recorded at about the same time last year.
These 59 cases were from the following:
* Guimbal – seven cases with one death
* San Joaquin (six)
* Sara (five)
* Concepcion (four)
* Tigbauan (four)
* Oton (three)
* Igbaras (two case with one death)
* Estancia (three)
* Santa Barbara (four)
* Lambunao (two)
* Carles (two)
* Pototan (two)
* Miag-ao (two)
* Batad (two)
* Leganes (two)
* Ajuy (one)
* San Enrique (one)
* Mina (one)
* Tubungan (one)
* Dingle (one)
* Calinog (one)
* San Dionisio (one), and
* Zarraga (one).
Data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed the age group most affected: 10 years old – 21 cases; 11 to 20 years old – 14 cases; 21 to 30 years old – eight cases; 31 to 40 years old – seven cases; 41 and above – five cases; and less than one year – four cases.
Meanwhile, 20 towns and the component city of Passi recorded no dengue cases. These were Balasan, Alimodian, Pavia, San Rafael, Badiangan, Banate, Janiuay, Passi City, Dumangas, Dueñas, Leon, Barotac Viejo, San Miguel, Barotac Nuevo, New Lucena, Cabatuan, Anilao, Bingawan, Lemery, and Maasin.
Thursday last week, Feb. 24, Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. said he was finalizing an executive order placing Iloilo under Alert Level 5 kontra dengue.
“I’m finalizing an executive order right now pero I don’t want to preempt it. Nagsaka kita gamay. We are closely monitoring that,” hambal ni Defensor last Feb,. 24 during sang press conference.

Ma–sentro ang campaign sang province sa 5S strategy nga amo ang masunod:
* “self-protection” from mosquito bites
* “seek early consultation” when signs and symptoms of dengue occur
* “say yes to fogging” as a last resort when there is a looming outbreak
