BACOLOD City – Over 230 unregistered firearms from across Negros Occidental are now under the custody of Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office turned over the unlicensed guns to PRO-6 during a ceremony at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City on Monday.
Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and 16 municipal mayors led the turning over ceremony for 205 guns with expired licenses.
Police provincial director Colonel Romeo Baleros also surrendered 25 loose firearms owned by former New People’s Army rebels.
“Your action is indeed a manifestation of your sincerity to help us achieve a peaceful midterm election this coming May,” said PRO-6 director Brigadier General John Bulalacao, lauding the move of local officials.
Bulalacao noted that PRO-6 has seized 9,104 firearms with expired licenses since the onset of “Tokhang Kontra Guinadili-an nga Pusil” campaign last July. (With PNA/PN)
