ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Police Office is ready to secure the weeklong celebration of the Chinese New Year beginning today.

Iloilo City Police Station 1 commander Superintendent Jonathan Pablito said they will deploy 250 personnel to areas where activities in relation to the celebration were set.

These areas include Iznart Street and Iloilo City Dinagyang Grandstand on Muelle Loney Street.

A fireworks display is scheduled at 9 p.m. today at the grandstand. A parade and a cultural show will also be staged on Friday.

“We have to see to it that our Chinese businessmen and the public are secured,” said Pablito.

He added that spectators are not allowed to bring backpacks, big bags, bladed weapons, and firearms when entering Iznart.

“Those who will violate will be placed inside the detention cell,” Pablito stressed.

There will be only one gate for entry and exit. The public will be frisked upon entrance.

“We have intelligence personnel who are in civilian clothes and augmentation forces to help us and watch over lawless elements,” added Pablito.
