ILOILO – A total of 26 individuals were apprehended following a raid at an illegal cockfighting den in Barangay Pandac, Pavia town around 11:30 a.m. yesterday, March 2.
Among those arrested were aliases “Jun”, 55, of Barangay Cagbang, Oton, Iloilo; “Kris”, 31, of Barangay Balabag, Sta. Barbara; “Ronie”, 48, of Barangay Jibao-an, Pavia; “Gerry”, 62, of Barangay Jibao-an, Pavia); “Dan”, 32, of Barangay Balabag, Sta. Barbara; and “Mel”, 58, and “Lloyd”, 27, both from Barangay Hibao-an Norte, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
They were caught in the act of participating in and betting on illegal cockfighting games, Pavia police said.
“We have received reports that there is an ongoing pauwak and many are involved. Our unit acted swiftly to stop this illegal activity and hold those responsible accountable,” said Lieutenant Gabriel Gilmer V. Manguera, deputy chief of the Pavia Municipal Police Station (MPS).
Police confiscated two cockfighting rings, P9,100 in bet money, 15 fighting cocks, two syringes, and a wall clock.
The suspects are now in police custody and will be facing charges for violating Presidential Decree 1602, which penalizes illegal gambling activities./PN
