ILOILO – A total of 285 households from two barangays in San Dionisio town now have access to safe and sufficient potable water.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. led the inauguration of the water system in barangays Bondulan and Santol on Wednesday, April 3.

Under the provincial government’s Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project, the improvement of the water systems aims to address the existing issue of supply scarcity.

The project in Barangay Bondulan costs P746,102 and covers the improvement of existing water lines and installation of new lines. It is expected to serve 70 households.

The one in Barangay Santol amounts to P749,502.36 and includes the development of water source and installation of electric motors and additional water lines. A total of 215 households will benefit from the project.

The provincial government also capacitated the Barangay Water System Association which will lead the management and maintenance of the project.

Defensor appealed to the beneficiaries to ensure the sustainability of the water system.

Atendiron ninyo ang pag-usar sang tubig naton kay maiwat ini sa iban nga barangay. Gakahubsan kita tasok kag daku ina nga problema. Congratulations kay nasustinir ninyo ang tasok diri sa inyo nga barangay,” he said.

The governor also turned over a check worth P5 million to Mayor Darwin Bajada for a water system project in San Dionisio.

Bajada, for his part, thanked Defensor and the provincial government for the various projects given to their municipality.

Access to safe and sufficient potable water is a priority program of the provincial government under the MoRProGRes Iloilo (Movement for a Robust, Progressive, Globally Competitive and Resilient Province of Iloilo) development agenda of Defensor.

Provincial Engineer Romeo Andig said Defensor recognizes the importance of safe and potable water in improving the standard of living of Ilonggos.

Isa ka handum sang aton gobernador nga maamat-amat tagaan sang malimpyo nga tubig ang mga pumuluyo sang probinsya sang Iloilo,” Andig added./PN
