ILOILO – From June 1 to 22 this year, various police units under the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) arrested 286 individuals for illegal gambling and seized 39 assorted loose firearms across Western Visayas.

These significant accomplishments in the campaign against illegal activities were announced by Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky, director of the PRO-6, on Monday, June 24.

Wanky said the 96 anti-illegal gambling operations also led to the confiscation of bet money amounting to P100,000.

In the campaign against loose firearms, the 44 individuals arrested and 39 assorted guns and two explosives seized from 38 operations through “iron hand” approach demonstrated PRO-6’s firm stance against individuals unlawfully possessing firearms.

Additionally, the “soft hand” approach led to the surrender or deposit of 228 assorted firearms and 36 explosives.

Wanky highlighted community cooperation and voluntary compliance in the “soft hand” approach, adding it reflected the police force’s strategy of building trust and fostering a collaborative effort with the public to enhance regional security./PN
