BACOLOD City – Three volleyball players from Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts are set to play their collegiate careers in Manila after committing to San Beda University Lady Red Spikers.

Open spiker Sophie Cagalawan and liberos Gwen Toledo Banas and Amber Lily Biong formalized their commitment with the NCAA-based squad after being approached by a San Beda team official months ago.

“To be able to play and study in a prestigious school like San Beda is a huge opportunity for me,” Cagalawan said. “It was a dream for me to play in Manila for college and I am glad that San Beda allowed me to fulfill that.”

“This is a realization of my life goals,” Banas on her San Beda recruitment. “I will surely not waste this opportunity by being a good teammate to my fellow Bedans and helping the school to win games to the best of my abilities.”

“The three of us were very much thankful to sir Boy (Jose Montalbo) and our coaches (Ian Macariola and Roberto Calamba Jr.) for molding us and helping us fulfill our Manila dreams,” Biong said. “We will surely not waste this once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Coming from the successful volleyball program of the Thunderbolts, Cagalawan, Banas and Biong have promised to bring their winning attitude to the Lady Red Spikers in the NCAA women’s volleyball wars.

“We will surely bring the Thunderbolts spirit to San Beda,” Cagalawan said. “We will try to replicate our winning tradition to the San Beda and, personally, I will continue to improve my skill further since I have five full years to play for them.”

“San Beda can count on me to be courageous and to represent our school well,” Banas said. “Building solid relationships and interactions with my ates there will be important for us to have a good camaraderie inside or outside the court.”

“I will be fully committed to the role that will be given to me as libero. I will aim for continuous skill improvement and can assure you to perform to the best of my abilities with consistency,” Biong said.

Cagalawan, Banas and Biong will add up to the Negros Occidental-based players in the Lady Red Spikers roster following the addition of Pontevedra, Negros Occidental-native Jaschryl Casugod earlier this year./PN
