3 Capiz towns get ‘SGLG’ award

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Three Capiz towns were among this year’s national awardees of the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).

The towns of Dao, Dumarao and Jamindan were recently conferred 2019 SGLG winners during the awarding ceremony in Metro Manila early this month.

Marecor Diaz, chief of the local government monitoring and evaluation section of the DILG-Capiz, said four towns here were assessed for the national level – of which, three municipalities passed.

She said the SGLG is a challenge for local governments to continue good governance practices while providing better public services.

The criteria include financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, peace and order, business friendliness and competitiveness, environmental protection, tourism, culture and the arts.

DILG secretary Eduardo Año, meanwhile, congratulated the 380 winning local government units (LGUs) – composed of 17 provinces, 57 cities and 306 municipalities.

Año said the 380 LGUs “proved that there is good work executed at the local level for the benefit of the Filipino people.”

The SGLG, which originated from the Seal of Good Housekeeping, is DILG’s response to the clamor of the people for integrity and performance in public service.(With a report from PIA/PN)
