ILOILO City – Three traffic enforcers here were dismissed from the service for alleged extortion.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, who was feeling under weather and working from home yesterday, approved the recommendation of the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) Disciplinary Board to dismiss the trio.
He also issued a warning to all city government employees – regular and casuals – who are into illegal activities.
“I will not hesitate to terminate any casual or regular employee if allegations of wrongdoing against them are duly proved,” the city mayor warned.
The three traffic aides were Janiel Bolencis, Rodney Bade and Sernuel Abad Jr.
According to the PSTMO Disciplinary Board, the trio acknowledged receiving money. However, they claimed they did not ask for it.
Abad admitted receiving money from two complainants in two separate instances.
He first received P1,000 for a traffic violation. The second was from an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who made a wrong turn in a “no left turn” lane. The money involved was also P1,000; he shared half of it to Bolencis.
Aside from the said OFW, Bolencis said he also received P500 from a truck driver from Mindoro for a truck ban violation and for having no city sticker.
Meanwhile, Bade claimed the money was inserted in his temporary operator’s permit booklet he gave to the violator for the latter to get his driver’s license./PN
