ILOILO – It is going to be a three-cornered race for congressman in the 2nd, 4th and 5th districts in the May 13, 2019 midterm elections.
Data from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) showed the following filers of certificates of candidacy (COC) for congressman in the 2nd District: Pavia’s Mayor Michael Gorriceta (Nacionalista Party), Santa Barbara’s Mayor Dennis Superficial (National Unity Party) and Mark John Velasco (Independent).
Velasco said he was a church minister and wanted to further expand his public service.
“Damo ako plano pero indi ako mangako. Himuon ko lang sa abot sa akon masarangan,” said Velasco.
Among his plans are the concreting of roads and energizing villages with no power yet.
Meanwhile, according to Gorriceta, he would be glad to continue the programs and projects of his father (Cong. Arcadio Gorriceta) such as developing Bucari, Leon into a tourist destination, giving medical and burial assistance to the poor, livelihood assistance, building infrastructures such as roads and public schools in the 2nd District.
For his part, Superficial said the foremost job of a congressman is to make laws.
In the 4th District, the COC filers for congressman were Barotac Nuevo’s Mayor Braeden John Biron (Nacionalista Party), Atty. Marvin Daquilanea (Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan) and Erlina Barte (Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan – Democratic Party of the Philippines).
In the 5th District, three COC filers were Gervacio Del Castillo (Independent), Cong. Raul Tupas (Nacionalista Party) and brother former congressman Niel Tupas Jr. (Liberal Party).
A resident of Barangay Lipata, Barotac Viejo, Del Castillo said he planned to double the financial assistance of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries and senior citizens./PN
