ANTIQUE – Two related shootings in barangays Cubay North and Cubay South in Bugasong town on Friday left three people dead: a policeman, a village councilman and a man reportedly suffering from nervous breakdown.
Police identified them as Police Staff Sergeant Elvin Agting, 42, of the Bugasong police station; 60-year-old barangay kagawad Efren Florendo of Cubay South; and 33-year-old Roy Jalipa of Cubay North.
According to Police Lieutenant Fritz Padroncillo, chief of the Bugasong police station, a group of policemen from their station led by Agting responded to an alleged shooting in Florendo’s house around 5:40 p.m.
Florendo was shot by Jalipa who allegedly went berserk, according to Padroncillo.
Policemen did not chance on the suspect as he reportedly ran home to Cubay North.
Police went to Jalipa’s house to negotiate his surrender.
Jalipa reportedly agreed but shot Agting on the face using a 12-gauge shotgun.
The police retaliated and shot Jalipa to death.
The shotgun was later recovered from the crime scene.
According to Florendo’s son, Julius Stephen, his father was about to have dinner when Jalipa arrived and shot him on the head.
“Migohay gid sila sang Tatay ko kay ginsapopo namon ina sia. Tanan nga kinahanglanon nya nahatag sang father ko tapos tiniro nya,” Julius Stephen said.
Agting, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Belison town was just reportedly finishing his duty hours.
It was his child’s birthday yesterday, reports added.
The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) expressed sympathy to the family of the fallen personnel.
“PRO-6 under Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda extends our condolences to the bereaved family and colleagues of the demised,” said PRO-6 spokesperson, Police Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis.
