BACOLOD City – Three people died in separate road accidents in Negros Occidental on Good Friday, April 7.

The 36-year-old Marjorie Magallanes was declared “dead on arrival” at the Victorias Emergency Clinic. The tricycle she was riding was hit by a sport utility vehicle (SUV) in Victorias City.

Based on information released by the Victorias City police, Magallanes and five other individuals were onboard the tricycle. They were hit by an SUV driven by Chinese national Chen Hai Rui, a resident of Barangay 14, Bacolod City.

With Rui was another Chinese national, 32-year-old Lyu Fangbin, a resident of Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

Witnesses claimed Rui was driving fast and when they tried to overtake another vehicle they accidentally hit the tricycle running in the opposite direction.

Rui immediately surrendered to the police.

In Sagay City, two minors aged 12 and 13 years old from Barangay Rafael Barrera died when a truck they were riding rammed a tricycle.

Driven by 35-year-old Vengie Noynay, police said the truck, loaded with around 15 passengers, came from the beach and was on their way home when it accidentally hit a parked tricycle in Purok Singbinco, Barangay Plaridel.

Sagay police added the driver was inebriated, which possibly caused him to lose control of the truck and further swerved into the sugarcane field.

The victims were declared “dead on arrival” at a hospital.

Noynay was detained at the Sagay City Police Station, facing vehicular manslaughter charges.

He could also face additional charges for assaulting law enforcement, police said./PN
