3 ‘gold hunters’ face raps for illegal gun possession

ILOILO City – Three men digging for alleged gold in Barangay Aglosong, Concepcion, Iloilo face charges for illegal gun possession.

Policemen recovered from them a 5.56 revolver, a 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition on Wednesday.

The following were detained at the Concepcion police station on Aug. 29: Robert Cabrillos, 55; Joel Labitao; and Jomarie Baldoza, 42.

They failed to produce gun licenses, said Concepcion police chief John Pasaporte.
Cabrillos and Labitao were both residents of Barangay Manipulon, Estancia while Baldoza was from Barangay Siempreviva, San Dionisio.

Concerned residents alerted the Concepcion police that three strangers with guns were digging earth in Barangay Aglosong.

Responding policemen arrested the three around 3:340 p.m.

Aside from failing to show gun licenses, the men also failed to present documents from concerned government agencies such as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) authorizing them to conduct mining activities in Barangay Aglusong, said Pasaporte.

The Concepcion police would leave it to the DENR what legal action to take against the three men, he said./PN
