BUENAVISTA, Guimaras – Three persons who reached the age of 100 years old here each received P100,000 incentive from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 on March 1.
The centenarians were the following:
* Anacleta Gahap Garcia of Barangay San Roque (born on September 1920)
* Sabino Gallego of Barangay Agsanayan (born on January 1920)
* Virginia Gaborno Montaño of Barangay San Isidro (born on July 1920).
They also received certificates of appreciation from President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Tani sang nagligad pa ini nga tuig garing kulang-kulang ang pundo sang DSWD that’s why first quarter of 2021 nila gin-release,” said Mayor Eugenio Reyes.
Feting centenarians with P100,000 cash incentives and certificate of appreciation is being mandated by Republic Act 10868 (Centenarians Act of 2016).
Reyes said the municipal government of Buenavista also gave the three centenarians P10,000 each, “a sort of pagpasalamat sa aton katigulangan.”
“Kon tan-awon gid naton, sila pundasyon kon ano nalab-otan sang banwa,” he added.
Reyes said he asked the centenarians how they managed to live this long.
“Ang ila sekreto amo ang pagkaon sang laswa. Talagsa sila nagakaon sang karne. Healthy lifestyle, amo ina ang importante,” he said.
The Centenarians Act of 2016 was made into law on June 23, 2016 by then President Benigno Aquino Jr.
Section 3 read: “As part of the annual Elderly Filipino Week, Oct. 1 to 7, the first Sunday of October is hereby declared as National Respect for Centenarians Day during which, all Filipinos who have turned centenarian in the current fiscal year shall be awarded a plaque of recognition and a cash incentive by their respective city or municipal governments in appropriate ceremonies in addition to the Letter of Felicitation and Centenarian Gift provided in Section 2 hereof. The local government unit concerned shall determine the amount of the cash incentive./PN
