3 Iloilo towns seek moratorium on LSIs

ILOILO – The municipalities of Badiangan, Janiuay and Oton want to impose a moratorium on the return of locally stranded individuals (LSIs).

These three towns recently asked Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. to suspend the repatriation during the holidays, according to Atty. Suzette Mamon, acting provincial administrator.

In requesting for the timeout, local chief executives said they wanted to have sufficient time for frontliners to rest and prepare the quarantine facilities before accommodating new batches of LSIs.

The municipal governments did not specify how long should the suspension last but Mamon believes this would stretch for at least two weeks.

Governor Defensor is set to endorse their requests to Western Visayas’ Regional Inter-Agency Task Force for approval.

Based on the Dec. 6 data of the Provincial Health Office, the town of Oton had the most number of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases at 304 with six deaths.

The town of Janiuay had a total of 67 COVID-19 cases with two deaths while Badiangan had six total cases and only one death./PN
