KALIBO, Aklan – Community quarantine facilities in three barangays of Balete, Aklan were officially turned over by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to the municipal government.
Worth P13.6 million, they were funded under the Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) Program.
The local government of Balete had a counterpart of P79,000 to DSWD’s P13.5 million.
The fully functional facilities in barangays of Cortes, Feliciano and Aranas were for returning overseas Filipino workers, residents and locally stranded individuals impacted by the virus.
They had toilet and bath, doffing and donning areas, medical equipment, reception and decontamination areas, and parking spaces.
DSWD assistant regional director for operations Delia Bagolcol, Aklan governor Florencio Miraflores, Balete mayor Dexter Calizo and League of Municipalities of the Philippines president Jose Enrique Miraflores were present during the turnover and inauguration on Dec. 28, 2020.
Bagolcol said the facilities were responsive and built timely for the pandemic.
DSWD activated its Disaster Response Operations Procedure (DROP), a modified Community Empowerment Cycle (CEAC) to identify and prioritize the needs of the barangays of Poblacion, Arcangel, Morales, Aranas, Guanko, Calizo, Fulgencio, Oquendo, Feliciano and Cortes, in times of disaster or emergency situations.
As of Jan. 5, the town recorded 17 confirmed cases with no active cases./PN
