ILOILO City – Three suspected members of the Maute terrorist group were sent back yesterday morning to Cagayan de Oro City to face criminal charges.

One of the three, 20-year-old Aljadid Pangompig Romato of Iligan City, has a pending rebellion case for the Marawi City siege, said Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).

The two other suspects were Faridah Pangompig Romato, 23, of Cagayan de Oro City and Abdulralman Dimakuta Sevad, 35, of Barangay Marantao, Lanao del Sur.

Gorero said the two will be charged with obstruction of justice for helping Aljadid Pangompig Romato evade the police.

A Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) aircraft transported the three suspects to Cagayan de Oro City around 4:30 a.m., some 13 hours after they were arrested aboard M/V St. Therese of the Child Jesus on Sunday at the port of Iloilo. The ship from Cagayan de Oro was bound for Manila but made a stopover in Iloilo City on Sunday.

Faridah Pangompig Romato was a distant relative – not a sister – of the Maute brothers whose group attacked Marawi City, the PCG clarified.

Gorero said the three suspects were going to Manila, based on their trip tickets.

“We have not received information regarding the presence of Maute group members here (Western Visayas),” said Gorero.

The commander of the PCG in Northern Mindanao, Captain Leopoldo Panopio, said sea marshals were already monitoring the suspects’ movements on the ship while still in Cagayan de Oro City on Saturday night./PN
