3 Negrense volleyball teams to compete in Cebu invitational

MANILA – Three Negros Occidental-based teams are set to compete in the 10th St. Ignatius Invitational Volleyball Cup from July 27 to 28 at the Lux Oriens Gym of the Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) in Canduman, Mandaue City.


Palarong Pambansa 2019 runners-up Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts are set to parade a mixture of players from its seniors and aspirants squad.


“We have a number of players graduating next year so we are giving our other players the exposure needed so they can continue the winning tradition,” said Thunderbolts assistant coach Roberto Calamba Jr.


Bannering the Thunderbolts in the two-day event are seniors players Nicolei Galvan, Aurea Alvero, Katherine Shaine Cortez, Gwen Banas, and Kathleen Kate Tan and newcomer Julianne Monares.


Also in the team of head coach Ian Macariola are aspirants Sophie Cagalawan, Alijah Ysulan, Jermaine Joniega, Sandy Sta. Rita, Jothea Ramos, Charlene Tayapad, and Anthea Galicia.

Aside from the Thunderbolts, other Negros Occidental-based teams in the yearly competition are Trinity Christian School and Pontevedra.


Others in the competition are Ateneo de Cebu-A, Ateneo de Cebu B, St. Louis College-Cebu Cardinals, University of San Jose-Recoletos, Siliman University, and University of San Carlos./PN
