3 passengers rob, stab taxi driver

ILOILO City – A taxi driver was robbed and stabbed midnight on Thursday in Barangay Quintin Salas, Jaro district.

Alex Zandro Salavaria of Light of Glory taxi was a 34-year-old resident of Dumarao, Capiz. He sustained stab wounds to his right arm, left palm and right thumb.

According to the victim, three men boarded his taxi on Ledesma Street, City Proper and they asked to be driven to Barangay Ungka, Jaro.

Upon reaching Barangay Ungka, the passengers gave him P500 for their fare amounting to P183.

As Salavaria was preparing to give them their change, the men declared a holdup and ordered him to proceed to Barangay Quintin Salas, Jaro where they took his day’s earnings.

The victim told the police the passenger sitting behind him strangled him while the one seated next to him stabbed him.

The men took Salavaria’s P4,500 then fled.

Jaro police chief, Major Eduardo Siacon, said they already have persons of interest after getting footage from the closed-circuit television of an establishment where the men boarded Salavaria’s taxi on Ledesma Streeet.

The taxi driver was discharged from the West Visayas State University Medical Center after treatment./PN
