MANILA – Three Filipino taekwondo jins delivered gold medal performances in the end of the 1st Online Daedo Open European Poomsae Championships last night.
Jocel Lyn Ninobla of the University of Santo Tomas bannered the country’s medal haul after ruling the Under 30 Female Individual event with an accumulated score of 7.565.
The San Jose, Camarines Sur-native, also a gold medal winner during the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, bested Raquel Guillen Sanchez of Spain and Mahsa Sadeghi of Iran who settled for silver and bronze finishes, respectively.
Jocel’s father June, on the other hand, was the country’s second gold medal winner by topping the Under 60 Male Individual contest. The 2018 Asia Pacific Masters Games had a score of 7.280.
Former World Poomsae Champion Ernesto Guzman Jr., meanwhile, was hailed as Philippine’s third gold medal winner after ruling the Under 40 Male Individual category with 7.685 points.
Raphael Enrico Mella, for his part, lost grip of the gold medal after finishing fifth among eight competitors in the Under 30 Male Individual category finals.
For her part, Ilongga Angelie Marie Perillo, did not qualify for the gold medal round of the female cadet black belt poomsae for placing 39th in the semifinals on May 9.
Around 2,000 jins worldwide competed in the inaugural 7-day international online poomsae tournament./PN
