BACOLOD City – Citing the upward adjustment in the generation charge, three electric cooperatives in Negros Occidental increased their residential power rates this month.
The Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) announced that this month’s rate is P9.5038 per kilowatt hour (kWh) – an increase of P0.4759 per kWh from January’s P9.0279/kWh.
The increase in Ceneco’s effective rate can be attributed to the increase in the generation charge of P0.4167 and system loss charge of P0.0814, the management said.
According to Ceneco, the generation, transmission, and system loss charges are “pass-through” charges being billed to Ceneco by its power suppliers and transmission service provider, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP).
The distribution charges, which pertain to Ceneco, remain constant.
The current rate of Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative (Noceco) is P8.4913 per kWh, higher than the P8.2237 per kWh in January.
NOCECO general manager Jonas Discaya said the rate hike is attributed to the increase in generation and transmission charges of P0.1170 per kWh and P0.1239 per kWh, respectively.
The transmission rate increase is due to the increase in the ancillary service charges of the NGCP billed to Noceco.
Meanwhile, the increase in generation charge resulted from the hike in the fuel cost used in the operation of the power plants of Palm Concepcion Power Corp. (PCPC) and Kepco Salcon Power Corp. (KSPC) which supply power to NOCECO.
NOCECO also registered an increase in the systems loss and subsidy rates at P0.0238 per kWh and P0.0029 per kWh, respectively.
The Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (Noneco) reported an increase of P0.33 per kWh for February, pushing up its residential rate to P8.9974 per kWh from P8.6644 kWh in January.
Paulino Almedelia, manager of Corplan Department, said although increase in the generation charge is negligible, there is significant increase in the transmission charge also due to high ancillary charges of the NGCP. (PNA)
