ROXAS City – Three Capizeña singers won big in the recently concluded World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Anaheim, California.
They were Maybelle Villan of Dao town; Sheena Mae Olimba of Pilar town; and Coleen Mae Dumol of Roxas City.
Villan won gold in the Vocal SA Open (2020 Virtual); silver medals in Vocal Solo Variety and Gospel (2020 Virtual); and bronze medals in the Vocal Solo Gospel and RnB/Soul/Jazz.
Olimba also won gold medals for Broadway and Country; silver medal for Latin; and bronze medals for Original Works, Jazz, and Group Production.
Dumol, on the other hand, brought home the bronze medals for Group Production; Vocal Solo Contemporary; and Vocal Solo Pop (2020 Virtual).
The three, who represented the Philippines, bested contestants from 59 other countries.
Team Philippines, as a whole, dominated the 25th Annual WCOPA competition from July 22 to 30 with a total 265 awards and medals. These include 38 gold medals; 59 silver medals and 85 bronze medals.
The country also brought home 44 semi-finalist medals; eight grand finalist Medals; one Scholarship; 29 Division Winner Plaques and one Extraordinary National Director Plaque.
In 2018, John Michael B. Avelino of Roxas City won two gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze medals in the 22nd WCOPA held in Long Beach, California, USA.
This was followed Gino Paulo Buizon of Dao, Capiz in 2019 who won a silver medal in the vocal rap category; bronze for vocal world music category and second place in best in national costume.
Apart from Buizon, Giu Roxas-Comia also won gold and two silver medals and a scholarship in the New York Film Academy. (With a report from RMN Roxas/PN)
