BORACAY – Three suspected members of the crime gang “Boracay Demons,” including a minor, have been arrested.
Janel Villanueva, 19, of Kalibo, Aklan and Reymond Molina, 19, of Sitio Ambulong, Barangay Manoc-manoc here were hauled to the Aklan Rehabilitation Center in Barangay Nalook in the capital town.
The minor — 15-year-old “Christian” of Sitio Tulubhan, Barangay Manoc-manoc — was turned over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office in Malay.
“Boracay Demons” was linked to a string of theft and break-in incidents in the island resort, said Senior Police Officer 1 Christopher Mendoza, police-community relations officer of the Boracay Tourist Assistance Center (BTAC).
The three suspects victimized two boardinghouse tenants at the Talipapa Bukid in Barangay Manoc-manoc on May 4.
The tenants, whom the BTAC identified only as Jane and Jury, told the police the suspects stole their Flaire F3 and Samsung J2 mobile phones, Lenovo tablet computer, and GoPro camera around 3 a.m.
Jury’s friends caught the minor and turned him over to the police. BTAC operatives arrested the other two suspects in a follow-up operation.
Police recovered the stolen gadgets from the suspects.
Villanueva and Molina are facing theft and robbery charges.
“Christian” may not be held criminally charged. Anyone 15 years old or younger is exempted from criminal liability under the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006.
Boracay Demons was previously known as “Trese Hudas.” It has been operating in Boracay since the early 2000s.
“JR,” alleged leader of Trese Hudas, was detained for theft and illegal drug charges at the provincial jail.
The BTAC has recorded 170 theft and five robbery cases from January to March this year.
The cases accounted for 60 percent of index crimes, those committed against persons and properties, in the first quarter. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
