“Year by year, these three players have shown tremendous improvement, no wonder that they got the attention of the NU Bullpups coaching staff,” he added.
Conlu, who was also a former varsity player for Far Eastern University Tamaraws in UAAP before, said Locsin can still play for a year with the Bullpups, while Montinola and Cabrales are still good for two seasons.
“All of them are going in Grade 11 but Jid will only be eligible for a year, while Cabrales and Montinola kaya pa ng two,” Conlu said. “It is also an opportunity for them to improve further and be ready for college.”
Locsin, Montinola, and Cabrales will join the growing list of former Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix cagers in the Bullpups’ roster aside from Thomas Pillado, Ricky Murillo, Matt Laurence Acosta, and Roy Malaga.
Meanwhile, before fulfilling their Manila dreams with the Bullpups, Locsin, Montinola, and Cabrales will first help the Western Visayas secondary boys basketball team had a better campaign in Palarong Pambansa.
“They will play for Hua Siong and Western Visayas for the last time dito sa Palaro and we have a goal to improve our fifth-place finish during last year’s Palaro in Marikina City,” Conlu said./PN
