CAPIZ – A total of 300 students in this province received education cash grants through the “Cong. Tawi Cash Grant Program,” by Capiz 1st District Representative Emmanuel “Tawi”Billones.
The beneficiaries received P5,000 per semester for a total of P10,000 a year.
The funding for this program was coursed through and undertaken by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 6, starting Thursday.
The program aims to help parents struggling to fund their children’s tuition fees, especially during the pandemic.
“Ini nga pamaagi kahit paano makapiyan-piyan sa kalisod sang mga ginikanan subong nga pandemya,” said former Board Member Emmanuel Billones Jr., Chief of Staff of Congressman Billones.
Initially, the program aimed to benefit students from various private schools in the province to avoid conflict with the different scholarship programs under the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for public school students.
But the office of Cong. Billones is also eyeing students from public colleges and universities here once CHED’s guidelines for their scholarship programs are out./PN
