ILOILO – From Jan. 3 to March 6 this year, 32 trucks were apprehended for violating the provincial ordinance that prohibited overloading.
According to the provincial government’s Task Force on Anti-Overloading, the violators were as follows:
* two 12-wheeler trucks
* 10 six-wheeler trucks
* 20 10-wheeler-trucks
The anti-overloading provincial ordinance aimed to prevent the fast deterioration of roads and bridges.
Other violations of the apprehended trucks – mostly transporting quarry materials such as sand and gravel – were the following:
* lack of delivery receipts
* mis-declaration of cargo
* tampered delivery receipts
* open-dated delivery receipts
According to Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, chief of Task Force on Anti-Overloading, violators of the ordinance faced the following: P3,000 fine or imprisonment of one month for the first offense; P4,000 fine or imprisonment for two months for the second offense; and P5,000 fine or imprisonment for three months for the third offense.
The Task Force on Anti-Overloading is made up of personnel from the Iloilo provincial government, Land Transportation Office and Department of Public Works and Highways./PN
