ILOILO – Zamboanga City’s delegates to the 18th National Scout Jamboree in Passi City were stranded at the port in Dumangas town yesterday due to Tropical Depression Kabayan.
The Philippine Coast Guard yesterday suspended all sea trips following the raising of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 in Negros Occidental and Guimaras.
According to Butch Alejabo of Zamboanga City Boy Scout Council, they arrived at around 6 a.m. at the Dumangas port from Passi City. They were later told that all sea trips were canceled.
Zamboanga City has a total of 320 delegates to the national scout jamboree.
“We will just wait kung ano ang magiging resulta, kung walang biyahe mamaya, dito na lang kami mag-stay ng overnight,” Alejabo said in an interview with Aksyon Radyo Iloilo.
He added that such situation is inevitable especially that there is a typhoon.
“Nangyayari ‘yan, hindi natin ine-expect na ganito mangyayari. You can’t imagine, dumarami ang tao sa labas, andyan sila, dito kaming lahat (inside the Dumangas port). Hindi na sila makapasok,” he said.
Over 40,000 scouts and scoutmasters from around the country gathered at the Pintados de Passi Camp for the national scout jamboree from Dec. 11 to 17.
