ILOILO City – The Department of Education (DepEd) Region 6 has so far recorded 335,155 learners in Western Visayas who have registered early for the School Year (SY) 2024-2025.
Public schools’ early registration for incoming kindergarten, and grades 1, 7 and 11 learners began on January 27 and ended on February 23.
Incoming Grade 1 learners recorded the most number of registrants at 95,384, followed by Grade 11 (86,930), Grade 7 (86,808), and kindergarten (67,033).

Hernani Escullar Jr., DepEd-6 regional information officer, said the number of early registrants would still go up as encoding of schools of Basic Education Enrollment Forms submitted by parents or guardians is still ongoing.
Early registration of learners, Escullar said, is important for DepEd to allocate resources and plan out necessary measures for the start of SY 2024-2025.
For parents or guardians who did not make it to the monthlong early registration, they could still enroll their children on the schedule to be released by the DepEd in the coming weeks.
On Feb. 19, Vice President and Education secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio issued DepEd Order No. 3, Series of 2024 amending the end-of-school-year (EOSY) originally set on June 14, 2024, but moved it two weeks earlier to May 31, 2024.
Under sa DO No. 3, the end of school year break will be from June 1 July 26, 2024 and the end-of-school-year rites will be on May 29 to May 31 2024.
In the event of exceptional circumstances, schools are allowed to conduct end-of-school-year rites on June 1 upon consultation with teachers and parents.
DepEd Order No. 3 also stated that the start classes for SY 2024-2025 is on July 29, 2024 and will end on May 16, 2025./PN
