GUIMARAS – Nearly 4,000 residents in this province could avail of emergency employment through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
On Monday, Feb. 27, Governor Joaquin Carlos Rahman A. Nava and Lone District Representative Ma. Lucille L. Nava received a check worth P18,045,000 from DOL-6 director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr., and officer-in-charge DOLE-Guimaras Field Office provincial head Michael L. Gison.
The check would be used for the wages of 3,950 TUPAD program recipient workers from 96 barangays in five municipalities of the province.
Each beneficiary would have a P4,500 wage for a 10-day community service starting March 1 to 14, 2023.
Recipients would also receive personal protective equipment and GSIS group personal insurance.
The workers would engage in road cleaning, de-clogging of drainage/canal, community clean-up and beautification of tourist activity areas, disinfection and sanitation of community public areas, and agro-forestry projects such as tree planting, community gardening and group reforestation.
The TUPAD program is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers for a minimum period of 10 days but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of the work to be performed./PN
