ILOILO City – To forge deeper ties with the academe, the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) based in Camp Peralta, Jamindan, Capiz recently met with 10 presidents and college directors from state universities and colleges (SUCs) in Western Visayas.
Brigadier General Marion Sison, 3ID commander, welcomed the SUC leaders at the 3ID headquarters.
Among them were the presidents and extension directors of West Visayas State University, Guimaras State University, Antique University, Iloilo Science and Technology University, Central Philippine State University, Carlos Hilado Memorial State University, Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology, Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology, Northern Iloilo State University, and Capiz State University.
They talked about how to strengthen their partnership in fighting the rebel recruitment.
Jeffrey Celiz, former student leader and cadre of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army in Western Visayas, and Prosecutor Flosemir Chris Gonzales, spokesperson of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict 6, served as resource persons during the open forum.
They shared their insights on the extent of the tactics used by the rebels in recruiting students and youth to join the terrorist group.
The guests were also given a chance to have a glimpse of the 3ID’s capabilities through a Kinetic Display showcasing the Infantry Squad Operations, Artillery Squad Organization, and Mechanized Squad Organization held at the 3ID’s Known Distance Range.
The activity aims to have focused engagement with the SUC presidents and extension directors to fortify the existing relationship with the academe sector and work together for collaborative projects and programs.
The activity was also one of the proposed activities of 3ID’s Multi-Sector Advisory Board for 2023 and the best practices advocated by the command./PN
