BACOLOD City – Thousands of job seekers in Negros Occidental joined the Department of Migrant Workers’ (DMW) Job Fair Caravan on Friday, Nov. 17, in a mall in this city.
About 3,000 openings were offered in the service, medical and construction industries.
The one-day event spearheaded by the national agency was in coordination with the office of the Lone District Cong. Greg Gasataya and the Public Employment Service Office.
Gasataya said the event aimed to bring the different companies and placement agencies from Manila to the city so that local residents and those in nearby localities could apply directly.
This is also one way to ensure that they will not be victimized by illegal recruitment because the companies and placement agencies were accredited, supervised and scrutinized by the DMW, he added.
“There were thousands of applicants, mostly Bacolodnons. It was open to all applicants, even from outside the city, since it was a government service, although the priority was the residents here,” the solon stressed./PN
