ILOILO City – Some 3,000 city and municipal councilors across the country are in this city for the three-day national convention of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) at the Iloilo Convention Center in Mandurriao district.
The convention opens today. This year’s theme is “Education and Technology: The Power Key to Advanced Skills in Local Legislation and Transformation of Character and Efficiency in Public Service.”
The convention is one of the stops of President Rodrigo Duterte in Iloilo today. The two others are Cabatuan, Iloilo for the distribution of 3,772 Certificates of Land Ownership Award to land reform beneficiaries and a mall opening in Oton, Iloilo.
PCL national chairman Danilo Dayanghirang and national president Luis “Chavit” Singson also invited Iloilo’s Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. as guest of honor.
“Your participation in this quarterly event would surely inspire the officers and general membership to be more innovative in crafting local legislation that would uplift the lives of our fellow Filipinos in the pursuit of outstanding local governance,” read part of PCL’s invitation to Defensor.
According to Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, the provincial government of Iloilo extended a financial assistance of P400 thousand to the PCL for the national convention./PN
