ILOILO City – Four armed men shot in Barangay Tolarucan, Mina, Iloilo yesterday a man believed to have worked for slain drug lord Richard Prevendido as a hit man.
The 37-year-old Melvin Hermosura, a resident of the said barangay, died of multiple gunshot wounds minutes after he was taken to the Federico Roman Tirador Sr. Memorial District Hospital in nearby Janiuay town.
The shooting happened around 12:50 p.m.
According to Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, provincial police director, witnesses said the armed men were in a pick-up. They fired at Hermosura who was driving a motorcycle.
Hermosura was going to a furniture shop where he was employed when attacked.
Policemen recovered at the crime scene spent bullet shells of an M16 armalite rifle (four) and a .9mm pistol (three).
According to Tayaba, Hermosora was a gun-for-fire and served as hit man of the Prevendido drug group and later the Ernesto Bolivar group.
Prevendido was killed in a shootout with policemen in Barangay Balabago, Jaro, Iloilo City in September 2017.
Hermosura was also linked to robberies in the town of Pototan, said Tayaba.
“As of now we could not yet ascertain the gunmen’s identities and their motive,” said Tayaba. “Ang dami n’ya kasing involvement. Notorious kasi.”/PN
