4 Bacolod ‘kaps’ eye Liga presidency

BACOLOD City – Four village chiefs want the Liga ng mga Barangay presidency in this capital city.

Barangay Singcang-Airport’s Rosinie Distrito, Barangay 15’s Anthony Loth Ayco, Barangay Vista Alegre’s Jose Maria Leandro Norberto de Leon, and Barangay Tangub’s Noli Villarosa expressed their interest for the position, which grants an ex-officio membership to the city council.

The election will be on July 16, according to Department of Interior and Local Government city director Ma. Joy Marideth Madayag.

Villarosa is the outgoing Liga ng mga Barangay president in Bacolod, and is being identified as an ally of Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

Kon wala sang may magboto sa akon, batunon ko lang napero mapadalagan gid ako,” said Villarosa, adding that he wants to help fellow village chiefs to push through better projects for the city.

Distrito, de Leon and Ayco, meanwhile, are members of Grupo Progreso (GP), a local political group that Leonardia leads.

Distrito said he has been “loyal and supportive” to GP since he held public office in 2002. He added that it is high time for him to be the “voice” of barangay officials in Bacolod.

Ayco said he told Leonardia to consider him to be GP’s candidate in the Liga ng mga Barangay elections.

He added that the Leonardia has the final say who will be GP’s bet.

De Leon, for his part, said, “Whatever the decision of the group, I will follow.”/PN
