MANILA – Four Chinese drug lords were among those released from detention by the Bureau of Corrections in June this year, according to Sen. Panfilo Lacson.

Lacson on Thursday said the four convicted Chinese drug lords were released recently from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.

“Actually, they were released to the custody of the Bureau of Immigration for possible deportation but these are convicted Chinese drug lords that have already been released,” Lacson added.

He said the four Chinese nationals, who were convicted for illegal drug cases, were from Building 14, Maximum Security Compound and were transferred to the Bureau of Immigration and Deportation.

He added that he asked for a list of those set to be released on Aug. 20, the day convicted rapist-murderer Antonio Sanchez should be released, but he was told that the list was missing.

“We are trying to look for a copy of the Aug. 20 release order in favor of Mayor Sanchez but apparently nawawala ang kopya,” Lacson said.

Sanchez, a former mayor of Calauan, Laguna, was supposed to be released on Aug. 20 as per the claims of his family members but was put on hold after his impending release stirred public outrage.

Sanchez was convicted in 1995 for the rape and murder of University of the Philippines Los Baños student Eileen Sarmenta and the killing of her friend Allan Gomez in 1993./PN
