ILOILO City – Four suspected bet collectors for the illegal numbers game “bookies” were caught on Rizal Street, Barangay Rizal Estanzuela, City Proper.
The police took Benjamin Coralde, 38; Aeron Jay Mendoza, 20; Wifredo Valzado, 60; and Rodolfo Escorial, 48, to Police Station 1.
Cops caught the suspects in the act of soliciting bets around 2 p.m. on Feb. 12.
Among others, bet slips were seized from the four men.
The suspects face a charge for violation of Republic Act 9287 that outlaws illegal gambling, specifically Section 3 (c).
If found guilty by the court for being collectors or agents (cabo, cobrador, coriador or variants thereof), they faces the penalty of imprisonment from eight years and one day to 10 years./PN
