ILOILO – Four employees – three females and one male – of the local government unit (LGU) of the municipality of Lemery were positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in a rapid test.
Mayor Oscar Villegas Jr. ordered a rapid test on all municipal hall officials and employees as part of their LGU’s precautionary measures against the spreads of COVID-19. It was conducted on June 9 and 10.
Job order employees and frontliners such as policemen and personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection were tested, too.
According to Villegas, the four employees were immediately subjected to the more reliable reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for further verification because rapid COVID test results are deemed inconclusive.
While waiting for the RT-PCR test results, the four employees placed on quarantine at Lemery’s designated facility.
Villegas appealed to the people of Lemery to remain calm and observe health safety protocols such as wearing facemask, observing physical distancing and handwashing.
As of yesterday, June 11, Iloilo province had 21 confirmed cases of COVID-19, none of them from Lemery./PN
