PILAR, Capiz – The four fishermen reported missing at the height of Typhoon “Dante” on June 2 survived the bad weather and were able to return home safely.
According to boat captain Vicente Salvadico, 42, of Sitio Kawit, Barangay Binaobawan, he went out to check fish traps (arong in the local dialect) with sons Mark, 20, and Melvin, 18, and nephew Jareth, 16.
Strong waves and winds destroyed their fish traps, according to Salvadico, so they sailed away.
Because the sea was rough, they turned off their boat’s engine and just went with the sea current until they reached Zapatos Gamay Island in Roxas City.
There, residents extended help. They were given food and crude oil.
Around 3 p.m. of the same day, they decided to leave the island. They passed by Barangay Navitas in Panay, Capiz and sought the help of Punong Barangay Vicente Regalado. They were given more crude oil so they could sail back to Barangay Binaobawan, Pilar, Capiz.
Salvadico was thankful to those who helped them./PN
