ILOILO City – In Western Visayas, 29 members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and 14 from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) availed themselves of the local absentee voting scheme, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
The local absentee voting started on April 29 ahead of the May 13 midterm elections.
Of the 29 policemen, 22 were assigned at the regional police headquarters in Camp Delgado and seven assigned at the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).
These policemen cast their votes at the Police Regional Office 6 while the 14 AFP personnel did so at the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, according to Jonathan Sayno, election assistant 2 of the Iloilo City Comelec.
Western Visayas police director Brigadier General John Bulalacao was among the 29 policemen.
“We have to exercise our right to vote kahit hindi tayo makauwi sa ating hometown. We are on duty on May 13. Hindi tayo pwedeng umuwi, said Bulalacao.
Only a few policemen availed themselves of the local absentee voting scheme because most Western Visayas cops work near where they are registered voters so they could vote on election day, he explained.
The of the local absentee voting scheme ended on May 1./PN
