ILOILO City – More than 47 percent of this city’s target population were fully vaccinated against coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Data (as of Sept. 29) from the Iloilo City Local Vaccination Operation Center showed 247,831 individuals out of the 525,000 target completed their vaccination against the viral disease.
Of the figure, 151,955 received Sinovac shots; 25,974 got Astrazeneca; Moderna – 34,019; Janssen – 30,000; and Pfizer – 5,883.
Meanwhile, around 60.63 percent or 318,300 of the total target population had their first dose.
Before the year ends, the city hopes to fully vaccinate 90 percent of its total target population.
“We really have to double our guards,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.
The city government spent P300 million for 600,000 AstraZeneca doses. It also added P114 million for 163,927 Novavax jabs.
“Sufficient supplies are in preparation for achieving herd immunity as soon as possible. The city has the highest vaccination rate in the region,” said Treñas.
Vaccines are also being readied for the booster shots of healthcare workers and frontliners once the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases gives the go signal.
Treñas said the city is also ready to vaccinate children aged 12-17 years old if this will already be allowed./PN
