$5.5-M Concepcion fish port project to have int’l bidding

When completed, the fish port of Concepcion, Iloilo will have a passenger terminal, improved area for restaurants/stalls, new fish port complex with total pavement area of 6,500 square meters, and new wet market and causeway. The Concepcion fish port was ravaged by super typhoon “Yolanda” in 2013. After a series of consultations with stakeholders, the United Nations Office for Project Services finalized the schematic design for the port’s rehabilitation. Once completed, the new fish port is expected to provide adequate, quality and safe berthing of fishing vessels and improve the access to basic fish port services, according to the provincial government. ILOILO – Good news to the people of northern Iloilo, particularly the town of Concepcion. The much-awaited rehabilitation of the Concepcion fish port will soon start.

The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) called for an international bidding of the US$5.5-million project which will be funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) through a grant.

UNOPS posted the invitation to bid at the UN Global Marketplace website (www.ungm.org/Public/Notice/76986) on Sept. 7, 2018 with the deadline set on Oct. 4, 2018.

KOICA committed the project after northern Iloilo was ravaged by super typhoon “Yolanda” (international name: “Haiyan”) in November 2013.

On Dec. 22, 2016, Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr., KOICA country director Myung Seop Shin and Concepcion mayor Milliard Villanueva signed the Record of Discussions on the project.

The Regional Development Council (RDC) endorsed the project to the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA).

Based on the Project Document, the existing fish port will undergo rehabilitation while a new fish port complex will also be constructed.

The existing wet market will be converted into a passenger terminal with a total area of 450 square meters.

Restaurant stalls will also be improved and a selling area for local products will be constructed.

An access road measuring 5.5 x 50 meters will also be built while solid waste sorting area, toilets, septic tanks and drainage systems and solar lights will be installed in the area.

In addition, a new fish port complex with a total pavement area of 6,500 square meters will be constructed.

The new fish port complex will include a fish market area of 600 square meters, an administration building with a total area of 150 square meters, and an ice storage facility.

A piled causeway with a length of 200 square meters and an access road measuring 7 x 40 meters will also be built.

KOICA will also provide the following equipment and materials for the fish port complex: equipment and furniture for the Administration Building and Passenger Terminal, water tanks, solar lights, public address and warning system and generator set.

The project also includes capacity building of project implementers and beneficiaries particularly with regard to coastal and marine rehabilitation and enforcement, and employment and livelihood skills and development. (Capitol News/PN)
